"The dragon is dancing!"

“龍舞起來了！”

The centuries-old straw dragon is dancing in a large cherry field Nayong County, Guizhou on Mar 2.

三月二日，貴州省納雍縣，草把龍舞龍表演在大片櫻桃花田中上演。

In ancient times, during the fifth and sixth months of the lunar calendar, insects were prevalen when the rice was growing, so farmers made straw dragon to expel the disease. 

古時，農歷五六月間，是田間稻谷生長期，病蟲多發，農民就以舞草把龍來驅逐稻瘟病。

It is said to be a 600-year-old cuture. The event started from the village center, covering fields, hills and roads, with the same movements as the lantern dragon dance. The dragon dance team blowed bullhorns, beat gongs and drums and set off firecrackers, and danced the straw dragon among the flowers to pray for good weather.

代代相傳，這一舞龍文化據說已有600多年的歷史。舞龍隊從村寨出發到田野，在每片稻田區、每丘田坎上都要依次順路舞到，動作與舞燈龍相同。在吹牛角號、敲鑼打鼓、燃放鞭炮聲中表演舞技，花間舞龍，祈求風調雨順。
